7 ways to play by Google Rules

There is a very easy way that can deliver you great Google rankings. You simply give Google exactly what it wants. So let’s think about Google search strategy from the point of view of Google itself. Google wants people to use Google search. It therefore wishes to make Google search the best experience possible. In order to do this Google wants high-quality content shown it search customers. If you as a website owner can provide that great content, then you will be listed well on Google.

Google has dropped many hints about the type of content it likes. Firstly, it is interested in all types of content. Text content is the best because there’s more information for Google to process and display to search customers. Google also likes image content which it can process when you provide it within the right context. Google owns YouTube and is therefore really happy when it can add YouTube videos to its search results. Other videos can be listed too. However, it is harder to list your video content as there is less room for it in the search results, and less information within the video for Google to process and give you a good search position. The most sensible strategy would therefore be to create some text content, and hopefully back that up with some in images and maybe a video too.

Secondly, Google wants content providers that are going to create new fresh content on a regular basis. Think again about the search results that it is providing to it such customers. If the results are going to be the same every time a search is carried out, then the searchers could easily lose interest. If new content is being provided and Google can then add that to the search results on Google can provide a much better service to its such customers and therefore is very happy. Google will know and simple research can show you too, that most providers of content tend to be very diligent for a few days, even weeks, but few will create more than a dozen pieces of new content. For this reason, I will always create 15 to 20 pieces of new content before I start evaluating whether my content is making Google happy or not.

Thirdly, Google likes content being context. This means that you need to keep your website on one simple clear to follow subject matter. If the content flits from one subject to another, then Google will find it hard to understand what your site is really about. This will then hurt possible rankings for your site.

Fourthly, Google only trust us when others trust us too. The way it measures this is by looking at the links coming into our site from other sources. These can be other websites, or social media. The more important these other sites are seen by Google; the more importance is placed upon the link to us. The issue context is also relevant here. A link that works within a keyword will be much more powerful, as will an article about a subject listing to your site containing a page on the same subject.

Fifth, there are a number of actions you can take, often called search engine optimisation, which allows you to organise information in a way easier for Google to understand. Many search engine so-called experts would have suggested this is the first thing you do. However, if you do not have content of any significance, then an attempt at optimisation is a fruitless task.

Sixth. Now you have great content is time for you to go out and show it with others. Do not need to wait for people to tweet about your content. Grab your social media accounts and start showing links to your content first. There is nothing wrong with a bit of self-publicity, as long as it is done in moderation.

Seven. The last thing you need to do is to start understanding how your site is seen by Google and people that such. To do this you’ll need to set up some statistics. We suggest you use Google analytics which is free for smaller sites and will give you the basic information you need. This includes, you will see how any people visit your website, which pages they visit on your website, and what searches they have used to find you. By using this information will be able to more clearly determine what shall content is driving traffic and allow you to plan more intelligently content that you create next.
